Gisèle Apter is professor and chair of child psychiatry at the University of Rouen, Normandy, and head of Infant and Child Psychiatry at Le Havre Hospital, Le Havre, France. She also directs a parent-infant psychiatric research laboratory. Gisèle studied general, child, and perinatal psychiatry, and infant psychology at the University Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, followed by training in developmental psychology at the Children’s Hospital Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA. Dr Apter is president of the Société de l'Information Psychiatrique (French Public Psychiatry). Her research and publications focus on infants of parents with personality disorder and the transmission of disorganized attachment and on the impact of maternal mental health on the developing infant. She is involved in many international projects, such as the Postpartum Depression: Action Towards Causes and Treatment (PACT) Consortium. Dr Nicole Cirino is a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Baylor College of Medicine, where she also serves as the director of the Division of Reproductive Psychiatry. She has a secondary appointment in the Menninger Department of Psychiatry.

Dr Cirino is a fellowship-trained reproductive psychiatrist with 20 years of academic experience. She specializes in specialty clinical care, education, program development, advocacy, and research for women with perinatal, perimenstrual, and perimenopausal psychiatric conditions, as well as disorders of female sexual dysfunction. Dr Cirino earned her medical degree at Loyola University Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine, and completed her residency and fellowship at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine. She has earned additional certifications in sexual medicine, perinatal trauma, and perinatal mental health. She also leads the Women’s Mental Health Research Program at Texas Children’s Hospital within the Baylor College of Medicine.

Over her career, she has founded multiple specialty clinics and education programs. She serves in leadership roles in many national organizations, including Postpartum Support International (PSI), the American Psychiatric Association (APA), the International Society of Reproductive Psychiatrists (ISRP), and the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH). She is frequently invited to lecture internationally on multiple different medical specialties.

Julie Carbray, PhD, PMHNP-BC, PMHCNS-BC, APRN, holds her PhD and Master of Science degrees from Rush University, Chicago, and her Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. A clinical professor of psychiatry and nursing at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), she has been on faculty at UIC since 1993. As a clinician, Dr Carbray has a national reputation of excellence in serving families with mood disorders and was recognized by the UIC community in 2008 by receiving the Karen Gousman Excellence in Nursing Award and the American Psychiatric Nurses Association’s (APNA) Best Practices in Outpatient Mental Health Nursing Award. In 2012, Dr Carbray was awarded the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Inspire award for her long-standing commitment to UIC values and her inspiration of others in her work. In 2016, Dr Carbray was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by APNA for her service to psychiatric nursing.
